News from the Ladybugs

This week we made an awesome discovery when we mixed yellow and red paint together.....we made ORANGE!!! The best part was we did it with our very own hands with a little blob of yellow and a little blob of red paint. Then we swirled and we mixed to find we could make all different shades of orange, just like a pumpkin! So, we turned them into pumpkins using our little hand print for the stem. They are all sitting in a pumpkin patch decorating the bulletin board in our classroom!
The children enjoy working together "on the team!" They work together solving puzzles, cleaning up the classroom or the playground and building with blocks. They take so much pride when working together and when they are finished they shout, "WE  DID IT," with huge smiles on their faces!!

On Thursday we enjoyed our visit to the library and enjoyed the book, "The Bike Lesson" by Stan and Jan Berenstain. The children adored the funny story about the daddy bear teaching the little bear how to ride a bike, but not quite the right way!! We laughed and laughed and did a wonderful job listening!!
Next it was time to find our very special book. Then off to the desk to find the card with OUR name on it and wait patiently in line to check out our books. We are doing such a great job and we were excited to find that the library helpers were parents from our classroom!

We had so much fun in music this week learning a new song, "The Hay Grows Tall." First we learned the song and hand movements about chopping and stacking the hay when it grows tall. Then we sang it faster and faster and faster!!! It is definitely one of our favorites!!
We had a special guest reader on Thursday, Mr. Murphy! He read, "The Napping House," by Audrey Wood. The children were totally engaged as Mr. Murphy read us the story about a granny, a little boy, a dog, a cat and a teeny mouse that were sleeping. Then all of the sudden a little flea bites the mouse! We could tell this was one of Mr. Murphy's favorite books, and now it is one of ours, too!
On Friday we had our very first "Exploring!" The children had so much fun pretending to be puppies and kitties while eating their Scooby snacks and Cheerios from the bowl, without using their paws!!
The children designed puppy or kitten hats using ovals or triangles for the ears. They used paint dotters for spots and cray-pas for making stripes. Then Mrs. Wiltshire gave them a special little stamp for their nose! They wore their hats as they explored other exciting activities!
We used magnifying glasses to observe our growing squash plants and our many little tadpoles. We looked up close at the leaves and the roots. Those tadpoles were moving fast, but they sure were fun to watch!
Some of the other activities the children enjoyed were drawing with bundled crayons, building puppy houses with play-doh, playing "Puppy Bingo," using dot and cat stamps to make pictures and designing dog houses with cardboard bricks.
