The boys and girls had decorated cloth napkins with insects to use instead of paper on this special day. We talked about how we should keep using these cloth napkins EVERYDAY so we can save all of our many beautiful trees.
School lunches were also enjoyed on plastic reusable plates that the children brought from home. Talking about the importance of recycling and then practicing it on Earth Day definitely made an impression! They talk about it with friends as they recycle each day.
The children continued this enthusiasm in the Exploratorium by using as many recycled items as possible to build a "Recycling Party!"
A bridge was built on a basket using old beads and paper paper towel tubes as they worked together as a team!
Hexagon blocks and tree blocks were used to construct special environments for numerous insects.
Others enjoyed building zoo habitats for zebras, lions, tigers and giraffes. Some were taller than the children!
Different shaped blocks were layered forming adjoining inclined planes.
When checking out books at the library one Lively Ladybug chose a book, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," and it was almost as big as she was!
The Lively Ladybugs have been quite busy this week making special gifts for their parents.
Decorating their gift bag and filling it with surprises for their parents was exciting though taken very seriously!
Our newest ladybug met a new friend this week that speaks Korean with him. He was so tickled that he showed her everything on the playground!
We have had a recent new addition to the playground, "The Waterworks!" Different types of containers are used to gather water from a bin and then pour into funnels connected to tubes. The tubes carry the water back into the bin and it is "RECYCLED and REUSED" all over again. The children make predictions about which tubes might carry the water faster.
On Friday we celebrated the big day we have been preparing for, "PARENT'S DAY!!!!"
The children entered the program singing "We are the Dinosaurs" followed by "The Pledge of Allegiance" once upon the stage.
The children held their flags high as they recited the pledge.
Next the parents were invited to the classroom where we shared some special moments from this year and watched a slideshow of the children in action!
Then the children gave their parents the special gifts that they had made for them.
The parents loved their bookmarks with their child's self portraits and picture.
"My Special Mommy and Daddy" cards were fun to read as Mom and Dad admired portraits of themselves!
We all enjoyed cookies and punch, especially the icing!!
What an incredibly fabulous Parent's Day!! Thank you Moms and Dads for being there and to Mrs. McIvor for putting the program together. You are all the very, very best!!!
